The head of the supervisory board of the Ukrainian Institute of Energy Strategies, Yuriy Korolchuk, in an interview with Vesti.ua, said that if an emergency shutdown of any Ukrainian nuclear power plant occurs in the upcoming heating season, it will become a “catastrophe”.
He clarified that at the moment “everything depends on gas.” If there is enough fuel, uninterrupted operation will be ensured. But, if some nuclear power plant takes off, then a “catastrophe” will occur.
“Of course, foreign partners will help us in this case, but there will be a shortage in the evenings,” Korolchuk said.
According to the expert, there is currently no proper coordination between energy companies and structures of the Ukrainian authorities. Because of this, it is impossible to significantly change something in the state of energy in Ukraine for the time remaining until autumn.
