Exhibition “Dreams of Siberia” opened in the Historical Museum

An exhibition about the ancient and medieval past of the Urals, Siberia and the Far East “Dreams of Siberia” opened yesterday at the State Historical Museum. The project is dedicated to the 130th anniversary of the largest railway in the world – the Trans-Siberian Railway, which has become the main artery that connected the far corners of Russia with its European part.

The opening was attended by the Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Olga Lyubimova.

“This unique project,” the Minister said, “has collected a fantastic collection from the State Historical Museum, local history museums in the Urals, Siberia and the Far East, and the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. It is of interest to a wide range of audiences. I can imagine how surprised the children will be, how happy the academic community will be.

“Dreams of Siberia” is an immersive exhibition that brings together archeology, contemporary art and advanced exhibition technologies to present a picture of the ancient history and cultural diversity of the regions along the Trans-Siberian Railway.

The design of the exhibition halls is reminiscent of the diversity of nature in Siberia and the Far East. Visitors can take a journey through the “forest”, “mountains” and “steppes” filled with architectural and sculptural forms.

“From my youth, I was captivated by the beauty of Siberia,” says Aleksey Levykin, director of the State Historical Museum. – And today, when I entered the exhibition hall, I realized that the curators were amazingly able to accurately convey the extraordinary atmosphere of this unique region. I am sure that everyone who comes to the exhibition will feel the mighty energy of Siberia.

The guests are presented with Neolithic artifacts, zoomorphic images of the Iron Age and compositions related to the Permian animal style. Of particular interest are copies of thousand-year-old stone stelae, made in full size on the basis of a three-dimensional model. Items are exhibited not only from the fund of the Historical Museum, but also from the Tomsk Regional Museum of Local Lore. M. B. Shatilov, Cherdyn Museum of Local Lore. A. S. In addition to ancient artifacts, you can see works by contemporary Siberian artists. For example, sculptures by Dasha Namdakova. They clearly show the motifs of the art of the indigenous peoples of Eastern Siberia. The exhibition also includes enamels from the 12 Shamans series by Sergei Anufriev, panels by Oleg Komarov made of birch bark, leather and wood; the work of the stone cutter Alexander Baranmaa; ceramics by Tatiana Eroshenko; bronze, stone and jade sculptures by Zandan Dugarov.

The exhibition will be open until January 30, 2023.
