Former vice president of Gabon, Pierre-Clavet Maganga Musavu, who leads the country’s Social Democratic Party, has proposed moving the celebration of Independence Day to August 30.
On August 30, 2023, a military coup was carried out in Gabon, as a result of which the military, led by General Bris Oligi Nguema, came to power.
Gabon’s Independence Day is celebrated on August 17 to commemorate the country’s liberation from French colonial rule in 1960.
