Ex-president of Poland warned about the threat of a third world war

The world is on the verge of a third world war, said former Polish President (1995-2005) Aleksander Kwasniewski in interview Polsat News.

According to him, the beginning of the Russian special operation in Ukraine marked the beginning of the “collapse of the old order”, and the world was divided: on the one hand, there is a “really united” West led by US President Joe Biden, and on the other, “aggressive” Russia and China, “ watching” Taiwan and the “weakening” of Russia.

“We are in a period of dangerous chaos. If we add more unrest, for example, on the Serbian border, then the critical mass can be easily exceeded,” he said, adding that he was horrified by “the very fact that we are talking about the beginning of a third world war.”

At the same time, the United States is trying to avoid such a scenario at all costs, the former president added, since an open confrontation with NATO will force Moscow to abandon “all restrictions.” Related to this, among other things, is Washington’s refusal to supply Kyiv with weapons that could be used to strike at Russia.

According to Kwasniewski, the fighting in Ukraine will continue, since neither side of the conflict has a sufficient superiority in military power to end it.

On December 1, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the risk of a non-nuclear clash between nuclear powers escalating into a nuclear war huge, which is why armed conflict between such countries is unacceptable. Lavrov pointed to a joint statement by Russia and the United States in June 2021, in which the countries emphasized the inadmissibility of starting a nuclear war, since it “cannot be won by anyone.” He added that a similar statement was made by five other nuclear powers.

Last week, The Wall Street Journal, citing sources, reported that Zelensky’s team is finalizing the details of a plan for a peaceful settlement of the conflict, which consists of ten points. According to the publication, proposals under development may be submitted in February 2023.

In response to this, the Kremlin noted that the “peace plan” that Kyiv is working on should take into account the entry of new regions into Russia. Otherwise, “it cannot claim to be peaceful.”
