Yuri Zhirkov confirmed that his career as a professional football player is over in an interview with a RB Sport correspondent. According to him, everyone could already guess about it. Back in September last year, he said that he would leave big sport if he did not receive worthy offers from clubs.
“What do I plan to do next? Nothing. Enjoy life, haha,” Zhirkov, 39, said.
On Sunday, February 12, he played in the Russian national team in the Legends Cup – players over 35 years old take part in it. Zhirkov’s last club was Khimki, from which he left in June 2022 after three matches.
Yuri Zhirkov played for Zenit from 2016 to 2021. In its composition, he became the champion of Russia three times. He also entered the field as part of the Tambov Spartak, CSKA, Chelsea, Anji, Dynamo and the Russian team. Together with the national team, he took the bronze of Euro 2008.
