The former head of Udmurtia, Alexander Solovyov, who was found guilty in 2020 of taking bribes worth 130 million rubles, died at the age of 74. Information about the death of the former politician “Kommersant” was confirmed by his daughter Evgenia Sirik. According to her, recently he was very ill and spent almost a month in the hospital.
“He died today at five o’clock in the evening. He was very ill from the very moment of his release from the pre-trial detention center. He was very ill, he was paralyzed,” said Mrs. Sirik. Later, the death of Alexander Solovyov was confirmed in Ministry of Health of Udmurtia.
Alexander Solovyov was the head of Udmurtia from 2014 to 2017. In April 2017, he was detained on charges of taking bribes worth 130 million rubles. from representatives of organizations that built bridges across the Kama and Bui rivers in the Kambarka region. At the same time, in boxes with cash rubles laid the fish. In October 2020, he was found guilty and sentenced to ten years in a strict regime colony, as well as a fine of 275 million rubles, but was later released from serving his sentence in a colony for health reasons.
