Ex-head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kamchatka was sentenced to 11 years in a strict regime colony

The former head of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Kamchatka Territory, Mikhail Kiselev, was sentenced to 11 years in prison to be served in a strict regime colony. This decision was made by the court in the case of a bribe, specified in the Far Eastern Department of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
The materials relating to Kiselyov were submitted to the court by the regional prosecutor’s office in July 2022. He was charged with taking a bribe in the amount of 2 million rubles from an entrepreneur whose truck with fish was stopped by police because of a violation of transportation rules. According to the investigation, Kiselev ordered his subordinates to hush up the case and return the cargo.
According to the agency, “the court sentenced the defendant to 11 years in prison to be served in a strict regime correctional colony.” In addition, Kiselev was stripped of the rank of major general of the police, he was forbidden to hold positions in the public service for five years.
Kiselev’s case was considered under Article 286 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, concerning abuse of power, as well as under part 6 of Article 290 – receiving a bribe on an especially large scale by an official through an intermediary.
