This decision was made by the International Ice Hockey Federation regarding goalkeeper Ivan Fedotov, who signed a contract with CSKA. The sports organization conducted an audit of the agreements concluded between the club and the hockey player in terms of violations of the rules of international transfers. This was reported by the press service of the IIHF.

We are talking about the contract that Ivan Fedotov signed with the Moscow club this summer after returning from the army. The agreement was concluded, despite the fact that the goalkeeper also has a contract in the NHL with Philadelphia. Proceedings over contracts last several months.

The International Ice Hockey Federation noted that the agreement with the Philadelphia Flyers is valid, so Ivan Fedotov nevertheless violated the so-called contract of a professional player. According to the organization, the athlete was given two weeks, during which he had to either return to the Philadelphia Flyers hockey club or “get a release from his former club.” Such actions did not happen, so the IIHF applied sanctions to Fedotov.

“Four months of ineligibility to participate in official national and international games during game periods. The suspension comes into effect on September 1, 2023 (the first match of the CSKA regular season) and ends on December 31, 2023,” the IIHF press release says.

In other words, Ivan Fedotov will not be able to play in the KHL regular season until the end of this year. In addition, the sanctions also affected CSKA itself: the federation imposed a ban on international transfers of the club for the whole year, that is, until August 10, 2024.

The IIHF decision was also commented on by the Russian Ice Hockey Federation. They noted that the international federation handed over to the Russian organization documents with a position on the case of Ivan Fedotov.

“The FHR submitted the documents received from the IIHF to HC CSKA for study. The club was given a seven-day period to develop a procedure for further action. In the event that the club’s management considers it necessary to challenge the IIHF decision, the FHR will provide HC CSKA with full support in the consideration of the case by the IIHF Disciplinary Committee,” the FHR emphasized.

Recall that Ivan Fedotov spent several seasons in HC Traktor. He played for the Chelyabinsk team from 2019 to 2021, then moved to CSKA. In 2022, the goalkeeper was detained in the case of evading military service. As a result, he spent 2022 in the army, playing for the Navy team.
