Ex-Brazil national football player Alves received 4.5 years in prison for rape

A Spanish court has found former Barcelona and Brazil football player Dani Alves guilty of raping a 23-year-old girl. The football player received 4.5 years in prison. This is reported by a Spanish-language publication. El Pais.

The court found that in December 2022, the footballer raped a 23-year-old girl in a Sutton nightclub. The man was detained in January 2023. At first, Dani Alves said that he did not know the girl who reported him to the police, then he said that nothing happened between them, but in the end he admitted that the girl gave him a blowjob. According to the football player, the sex was consensual. He is appealing the verdict to the court’s appellate chamber.

During the trial, the girl’s identity was hidden by her decision; listeners and journalists were not allowed to familiarize themselves with her testimony and surveillance camera recordings. At the same time, the footballer’s defense requested that if the court finds the client guilty, two mitigating circumstances should be applied: damages in the amount of 150 thousand euros in compensation, as well as alcohol intoxication, since he was intoxicated on the night of the rape.

The football player is 40 years old. Since July 2022, he has played for the Mexican club Pumas, and before that for Bahia and Sao Paulo, Juventus, PSG, Sevilla and Barcelona. Dani Alves is one of the most titled football players in history (winner of 43 trophies). He is a six-time champion of Spain, a two-time champion of France, a champion of Italy, a three-time winner of the Champions League, won the UEFA Cup twice, and won the UEFA Super Cup three times. For the Brazilian national team, he twice won the Confederations Cup (2009, 2013), the America’s Cup (2007, 2019), and was an Olympic champion (2021).
