Ex-adviser to Nazarbayev appointed new Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Russia

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has appointed CIS Deputy Secretary General and ex-Minister of Culture Dauren Abayev as the republic’s new ambassador to Russia. About it informs press service of the Kazakh leader.

“By the decree of the head of state, Dauren Askerbekovich Abayev was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Russian Federation,” the message says.

June 16 Tokayev freed from this position Yermek Kosherbayev and appointed him head of the administration of the East Kazakhstan region. Kosherbaev has worked as the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to the Russian Federation since January 2020.

Dauren Abaev is 44 years old. He began his career as a civil servant in 2001 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan. From 2003 to 2007 served as Chargé d’Affaires of Kazakhstan in the Netherlands, writes portal Tengrinews. In 2007, he headed the department of the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the republic.

Then, in December 2007, Abaev began his career under the first president of the republic, Nursultan Nazarbayev. Until 2009, he changed several positions: he was an expert, a consultant to the head of state, and also deputy press secretary of the president. The official spent the next two years as a state inspector for the presidential administration before becoming a spokesman and adviser to Nazarbayev.

Later, Abaev served as Minister of Information and Social Development, First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of Kazakhstan, and Minister of Culture and Sports. Prior to his appointment as Ambassador, since March 2023, he worked as Deputy Secretary General of the CIS.
