Evgeny Kuyvashev discussed with Alexander Popov the application of the Sverdlovsk region for the stages of the World Friendship Games

The application for the inclusion of the Sverdlovsk Region in the list of venues that will host the World Friendship Games initiated by the President of Russia and the organization of “test” competitions in water sports were discussed at a working meeting by Governor Evgeny Kuyvashev and Alexander Popov, four-time Olympic champion, member of the Council for Physical Education under the President of Russia and sports.
Vladimir Putin’s decision to hold the World Friendship Games in the fall of 2024 was announced in June on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. According to plans, Moscow will become the main venue for these complex international competitions in September 2024.
“We will claim the right to host stages of the World Friendship Games, so it is very important for us to test the infrastructure created in the region in all disciplines where possible,” said Evgeny Kuyvashev.
The governor invited Alexander Popov to support the initiative of the Sverdlovsk region and hold complex competitions in swimming, diving and synchronized swimming under the auspices of the legendary athlete. The region is also ready to organize the stages of the Games in athletics and judo.
As MK-Ural previously reported, on June 1, Children’s Day, a reconstructed athletics stadium of the Kalininets sports complex was opened in Yekaterinburg. The commissioning of the facility was made for the 300th anniversary of the capital of the Urals.
