Evgeny Kuyvashev and Igor Levitin opened the Water Sports Palace in Yekaterinburg

On Thursday, April 13, the Water Sports Palace began its work in Yekaterinburg. It is the largest sports facility of its kind in Russia. The start of its work was given by the governor of the Sverdlovsk region Evgeny Kuyvashev and the assistant to the President of Russia Igor Levitin.

“This is an object of the Sverdlovsk region, but it is the property of all of Russia,” said Igor Levitin. – We had Kazan, and today Yekaterinburg. And I am glad that there are more and more such places. This is a world-class palace for all kinds of swimming, and the Olympic champions have confirmed this.”

Evgeny Kuyvashev stressed that the Aquatic Sports Palace will become not only one of the main venues for the International University Sports Festival, but after the competition, residents of the Sverdlovsk Region will be able to use it.

“We have enough lovers of swimming, we know how busy the pools of Yekaterinburg are, they are full. Children train during the day, adults train during the day and in the evening,” said Evgeny Kuyvashev. “Of course, after the test competitions, the main competitions, a system will be developed that will provide forms for both free and paid access here for everyone.”

The total area of ​​the Palace pools is 60 thousand square meters. There are children’s, jumping, training and demonstration pools. Here you can practice all water sports – from synchronized swimming and diving to diving and windsurfing.

Prior to the International University Sports Festival, the Aquatics Palace will host two test events: the Russian Diving Championship and the Sverdlovsk Region Swimming Cup.

“What we see today is the work of a large team led by Evgeny Vladimirovich Kuyvashev,” said Azat Kadyrov, First Deputy Minister of Sports of Russia. “Contractors and designers created a fabulous object in a short time.”

Earlier, MK-Ural reported that federal authorities supported the construction of the Water Sports Palace in the Novokoltsovsky microdistrict. Another 700 million rubles were recently allocated for work.

The Water Sports Palace is being built for the International University Sports Festival. Its commissioning is scheduled for spring 2023. Its capacity is designed to visit almost one and a half million people a year. There will be several pools where professional athletes from all over the Sverdlovsk region will train in swimming, diving, water polo and synchronized swimming.
