Russian President Vladimir Putin, at a meeting with the State Duma leadership and faction leaders, outlined several fundamental positions for the election campaign before the presidential election. Among them is compliance with their competitive framework, the president said.
“With the election campaign ahead, I consider it necessary to outline several fundamental positions. Well, firstly, everything must happen on a competitive basis and in full compliance with the law of the Russian Federation,”— said Mr. Putin.
The president added that any interference in Russia’s internal affairs “will be severely suppressed” in accordance with the law. He noted that all political parties need to determine their position in the upcoming elections. “At the same time, I consider the main thing for everyone to be a deep understanding of fundamental national interests, their responsibility to the people, to our country and its future,” said the head of state.
Voting in the presidential elections will take place over three days, from March 15 to 17, 2024. Vladimir Putin announced plans to serve his fifth term on December 8. Meeting of a group of voters for his nomination will pass December 16 at the Moscow Zaryadye Concert Hall
Former DPR Defense Minister Igor Strelkov and Dolgoprudny municipal deputy from the Union of Right Forces Boris Nadezhdin are also planning to run. Chairman of the Federal Political Committee of the Yabloko Party Grigory Yavlinsky will consider such an opportunity if 10 million signatures are collected in support of it.
