“Everyone is in shock”: singer Reznikova spoke about the difficult situation in Israel

The aggravation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict has been actively discussed for the second day. Yesterday, the Palestinian group Hamas fired several thousand rockets at Israel, after which it entered the country. Such a massive attack has not been remembered here for a long time.

Singer Anna Reznikova has lived in Israel since 1991. The singer of the hits “Farewell Words” and “The Right of the Last Night” found herself at the epicenter of events. The star frankly spoke to MK correspondents about how she survived yesterday and what the current mood is in Israeli society.

“It’s calmer here today: at least they let us sleep at night,” Anna sighs. “But for now the situation is very difficult, of course.” This was so unexpected for everyone! The fact that terrorists were able to enter Israeli territory has never happened before! It was usually like this with us: they start shooting, ours respond. Actually, everything ends in two weeks. What happened yesterday has never happened before. Therefore, this is a shock for everyone.

— Did you wake up yesterday because of the sound of sirens?

– Yes. I woke up at six in the morning due to the sound of a siren. We have not been afraid for a long time: I immediately went to a protected place. I thought: now they will shoot, we will respond, and that will all be over. Israel responds as usual? He sends messages to people living in Gaza that tomorrow at such and such a time a house or several houses at such and such an address will be shelled, so the civilians are asked to leave. This time, I think there is no need to warn. Because there was a challenge that the country had not felt for 50-60 years. Probably since the Day of Judgment, when three Arab countries went to war against Israel. But even then, there was no such thing as going into houses and shooting people at point-blank range. Just some kind of wildness!

— What are the current moods in Israel?

– What kind of mood can there be… Everyone calls each other to check if everything is okay. I have been living in Israel since 1991, shuttling between Moscow and Tel Aviv… I just recently returned from Russia – I had concerts there. I never thought it could turn out this way. Everything was quiet and calm.

– No panic?

“We don’t have any panic.” But everyone is in a state of shock, of course, given that the situation in our north is also heating up. Probably, this was thought out in order to attack Israel from two sides. Today the press secretary of our army spoke. He said that in the north we are ready for a possible attack. We have a lot of reservists. They all know when the alarm is announced, where to go. Therefore, there is no panic: everyone goes where he is supposed to go. Yesterday during the evening the reservists gathered.

— How do you think the situation will develop in the future?

– It’s hard to say what will happen next. Everything will depend on our army, which also suffered greatly. It is impossible to make predictions in this situation. Who could have predicted they would enter Sderot? This city is considered one of the most shelled cities, because it is closer to Gaza. And they came in and began to take hostages and transport them to Gaza. For what? To then demand the release of their terrorists from places of detention. I hope everything works out. Although, of course, it will be difficult to restrain from both sides. People who live in northern Israel are unaccustomed to war. We at the center are accustomed to the fact that shells fly periodically. They are not only shelling that unfortunate Sderot, which they destroyed yesterday. Both Rishon LeZioni, where I live, and Tel Aviv are being shelled… But the north of Israel is unaccustomed to this…

—Are you planning to return to Russia?

— I’m going to Russia in two weeks. I have a ticket for October 22nd. I really hope that by then everything will be settled, the airport will be opened and everything will be normal.
