“Even in medical school, I played music”

I don’t remember the day when I started making music, because I find it difficult to dissociate the moment when I listen to it from when I make it. I think that as soon as I listened to it I wanted to do it, if only to sing. Music has a great effect on me and, as I don’t know how to express myself by dancing, I express myself by singing. On the other hand, I remember very well why I was a doctor until 2015. I practiced for five years, first as a general practitioner, then I turned to palliative care. I worked two days a week in a geriatric palliative care unit.

My parents had asked me to choose studies. Among the trades that I certainly found laborious but beautiful and universal, there was that of doctor. I threw myself into these studies and I found it brilliant. The first year, it’s hard, but after that we are immediately in the hospital and, there, it is the bottom of the social funnel. You meet people from society to whom you would not otherwise have access. To forge a political thought, it’s not bad, the hospital. Moreover, it is not for nothing that there are many doctors who stand for municipal or legislative elections.

“Just Human”

Even in medical school, I was playing music, there was a rehearsal room, other students were passing by, we started a reggae band. After my three years of internship, I could replace general practitioners without having passed my thesis. That’s what I did, except that I didn’t write my thesis, I left it aside. At the end of these three years, by dint of giving concerts, I became a intermittent performer. I wanted to switch to the music at that time, but my wife ended up pregnant. It was a real problem for me not to have finished my studies, it worried me to have to say to my child: “It doesn’t matter if you don’t follow through with things. »

So I wrote this thesis pretty quickly. It was about palliative care. I brushed it off a bit, I admit, I sent it to a great professor, who contacted me a fortnight before the defense and told me: “I read your thesis, it’s very bad. Come see me instead. » I went to the meeting with my records. At the time, I had made little EPs, and I said to him: “Actually, I became a singer, I just want to finish my studies because I’m going to have a child, but I don’t want to be a doctor. » The guy who receives me is incredible: doctor of medicine, doctor of history and philosophy. Three doctorates, man, hyperinteresting, exciting.
