Bloomberg: Europe is facing increased abnormal heat

This week, southern European countries are expecting an increase in extreme heat. According to meteorologists, on Tuesday, July 18, the air temperature in some parts of Sicily could reach 45 degrees Celsius, which is slightly less than the absolute record of 2021 (48.8 degrees), Bloomberg reports.

In this regard, the Italian Ministry of Health has warned of adverse weather conditions in 20 major cities, including Rome and Florence. Elevated temperatures have a negative impact not only on the inhabitants of Italy. In Greece, heatwaves have already sparked wildfires that have damaged homes outside of Athens.

One of the main reasons for the increase in average temperatures in the southern countries of Europe is the thermal explosion in the Sahara, known as “Charon”. Heatwaves are also expected in seven southeastern regions of France, with a peak expected on Tuesday. Extreme heat could cause problems for local nuclear power plants, as rivers cannot be used to cool reactors due to their rising temperatures.

In the coming days, the weather conditions in the southern states of Europe may worsen. For example, in Sardinia, a record air temperature of up to 50 degrees Celsius is expected, which could break the absolute record for this region. Now abnormal weather conditions persist in a number of major European cities, including Athens, Rome and Madrid.
