“Euphoria” after a sleepless night found a scientific explanation

American biologists from Northwestern University have proposed an explanation for the fact that after a sleepless night, euphoria can be felt simultaneously with physical fatigue. The version is based on experiments involving laboratory mice.
The mice did not sleep for twelve hours, and after that they became more active, more aggressive and at the same time more sociable. Scientists have concluded that dopamine neurons, which are part of the reward system, play a key role in this.
Biologists report that the effect of “lack of sleep” in the short term can be compared to the effect of antidepressants. Scientists do not recommend giving up sleep to “improve your mood” – a similar mechanism is activated during physical exercise, which, unlike lack of sleep, can be beneficial.
