The Estonian government has decided to send Ukraine weapons worth 113 million euros. Prime Minister Kaya Kallas announced this on Twitter.
“The package includes howitzers, grenade launchers and ammunition – what Ukraine asked us for,” she wrote.
Kallas noted that the new package of military assistance was the largest ever, that Estonia provides military support to Ukraine. According to her, the total amount of Estonian military assistance to Ukraine amounted to 370 million euros, which exceeds 1% of the country’s GDP.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has already thanked the Estonian government on Twitter for the allocation of a large package of military assistance.
The Prime Minister called on other countries to increase the pace of industrial production in order to continue to support Ukraine. Tallinn has already applied to the European Peace Fund to reimburse the funds spent on armaments for Kyiv, says in a statement from the Estonian government.
On January 17, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, called for Ukraine to be supplied with any military equipment that it can use, including modern systems. Thus, the politician answered the question of journalists whether she, as a former German defense minister, supports the transfer of Leopard 2 tanks to Kyiv.
The Russian authorities have repeatedly criticized Western financial and military assistance to Ukraine. In particular, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova warned that pumping Ukraine with weapons would bring NATO closer to the dangerous line of a direct military clash with Russia.
