Estonia proposed introducing a trade embargo against the Russian Federation at the EU level

The Estonian authorities supported proposals for the draft 12th package of EU sanctions against Russia, which include, among other things, a full trade embargo. This was announced by the head of the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Margus Tsahkna, on X (formerly Twitter).

“Today the Estonian government supported proposals for the 12th package of sanctions with an emphasis on a full EU trade embargo against Russia,” he wrote.

The proposal also includes a ban on the transit of goods that are already subject to sanctions, the minister added.

Since the start of the special operation, the EU has already introduced 11 packages of sanctions against Russia in addition to the existing restrictions. Russian President Vladimir Putin, at a meeting with the government on September 18, said that Russia had coped with Western sanctions pressure, as its economy had recovered after contracting in 2022. The President called the current economic situation in the country stable and balanced.

Earlier in September, the media found out that the EU Maybe present the 12th package of sanctions against Russia in the first half of October. According to Bloomberg, they plan to include permission to use the frozen assets of the Bank of Russia to support Ukraine. Poland, the Baltic countries and a number of other EU states also insist on introducing additional restrictions against LNG from the Russian Federation and the services of Russian IT specialists.
