Estonia has closed entry to the country for Russian citizens on their Schengen visas

On August 11, the Estonian Foreign Ministry decided to close the borders for Russian citizens with Schengen visas issued by the republic. Estonia became the first EU country to restrict the entry of Russians after an appeal by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on August 9. Restrictions will come into force in a week, on August 18. As an exception, the residence permit in Estonia is extended for one year to those Russian students who complete their studies at Estonian higher educational institutions, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Russian citizens who have a long-term residence permit in the country, arriving to visit close relatives, diplomats and their families, workers engaged in international freight and passenger transport, citizens who can move on the basis of EU law, “still can enter to Estonia for humanitarian reasons. At the same time, the Estonian Foreign Ministry noted that they would study the issue of how to close entry into the country for Russians on Schengen visas issued by other EU countries.
