Estonia may boycott the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024 if athletes from Russia and Belarus are admitted, Prime Minister Kaja Kallas said.

In a Reuters commentary, she said that Estonia is currently making efforts to “convince friends and allies of the ‘wrong’ presence of Olympians from Russia and Belarus at the Paris Games.

“The next step is a boycott,” she said. At the same time, the head of the Estonian Olympic Committee, Urmas Syyrumaa, said that his country would not boycott the Olympic Games in Paris if Russian and Belarusian athletes were admitted.

Earlier, the head of the IOC, Thomas Bach, said that athletes from the Russian Federation and Belarus could take part in the Olympic Games in 2024 under a neutral flag. The sports official acknowledged that their exclusion from the Games is not in line with the values and mission of the Olympic Charter. Later, the IOC announced that the decision on the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in the 2024 Olympics had not yet been made. The head of the organizing committee of the Games, Tony Estangue, called for access to the Games for athletes from all countries.

The Summer Olympic Games in Paris will be held from July 26 to August 11. Earlier, the possibility of a boycott of the Games due to the participation of Russian athletes was reported in Poland, Latvia and Ukraine.
