Turkish leader wants to buy several amphibious aircraft from Russia to fight fires
Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan wants to discuss the acquisition of Russian amphibious aircraft to extinguish forest fires with Russian President Vladimir Putin. About this he informed authoritative daily newspaper Sabah after returning from the NATO summit held in Vilnius on 12 and 13 July.
“At a personal meeting with Mr. Putin, we will discuss the acquisition of several amphibious aircraft they have,” the Turkish leader is quoted as saying. Erdogan added that the state is allocating 100 million Turkish liras for the purchase of helicopters and aircraft for the Disaster Management Authority (AFAD).
Russian amphibious aircraft have proven themselves to be highly effective means of fighting fire in open areas. This summer, Turkey has faced forest fires that occur almost daily in various regions of the country. So, on the eve of a major fire broke out near the resort of Bodrum in the south-west of the country. The fire that broke out on the field spread to private property. Residential buildings are located within a radius of 500 meters from the forest fire. People, saving their plots, dig up the ground and mow dry grass. It is noted that the smoke has already reached the hotels. If the situation does not improve, it may be necessary to evacuate tourists.
