Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the restart of the “grain deal” is closely linked to the decisions of Western countries. According to him, the Black Sea Grain Initiative will start working again immediately after the West fulfills its earlier promises. The Turkish leader made such a statement during the annual conference of Turkish ambassadors in Ankara on Tuesday, August 8.
“The revival of this project, which in the context of the conflict allows Ukrainian grain to be exported to the markets through the Black Sea ports, depends on Western countries that must fulfill their promises,” Erdogan was quoted as saying by the AFP news agency.
In addition, the Turkish head of state expressed a certain amount of disappointment in the West for the lack of decisive steps that could use the positive mood generated by the Black Sea Grain Initiative to secure a ceasefire and, ultimately, establish long-term peace in the region.
