Erdogan says Swedish efforts to join NATO are useless

Actions directed against the Koran in Sweden, which are carried out with the consent of the local authorities, are criminal, and allegations of freedom of speech are just a cover. This opinion was voiced by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The politician praised the Swedish authorities for taking steps in the right direction in the form of changes to anti-terrorist laws, but pointed out that against this background, supporters of Kurdish organizations who freely carry out actions that promote terror make these steps useless.
Erdogan underlined the unacceptability of justifying attacks on the Koran, calling the protests in Stockholm burning the holy book of Muslims a crime.
Sweden applied to join NATO back in May 2022, but still cannot become a member of the North Atlantic Alliance. This requires the consent of all current members of the bloc, but Ankara refuses to satisfy the application of Stockholm.
Objections also arose from Hungary. However, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto made a statement according to which Budapest will not prevent Sweden from joining NATO if Ankara supports Sweden’s membership in the bloc.
