The resolution adopted at the UN General Assembly calling for a truce in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone showed how alone Israel and its supporters are, said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The resolution, as Erdogan recalled, was approved by 121 states.

“We see voices rising in every corner of the world against the massacre perpetrated by Israel and hope for humanity. We expect governments that support Israel to heed this call. This time, unlike other crises, the Islamic world has taken a more united position,” the head of state said at an extraordinary joint summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the League of Arab States in Riyadh (quote according to Milliyet).

Erdogan noted the contribution of countries that, along with Turkey, are making efforts to end the conflict and deliver humanitarian aid to the region. According to him, in cooperation with Cairo, Ankara sent 10 planes with humanitarian cargo to El-Arish airport in Egypt to then redirect aid to Gaza.

On October 27, the Israeli military announced an expansion of the ground operation and called on residents of the northern Gaza Strip to move to the south. On the same day, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution put forward by Arab countries calling for an immediate truce in the conflict zone. It condemns violence against civilians on both sides, and also calls for the release of illegally held prisoners and compliance with humanitarian law – not to attack peaceful civilian targets.

Since the outbreak of hostilities between Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas, Erdogan has made a number of anti-Israeli statements. On October 28, at a rally in support of Palestine in Istanbul, he accused Tel Aviv of war crimes and called the state of Israel an occupier. Erdogan also blamed the escalating violence in the Middle East on the West.
