Erdogan says he expects Putin’s constructive response to grain deal
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he expects a constructive response from Russian leader Vladimir Putin over the grain deal, Haber Turk reports. According to Erdogan, Kyiv has already expressed its willingness to cooperate.
Erdogan said this on Monday at a briefing before flying to Vilnius for a NATO summit.
He also said that he expects the arrival of Vladimir Putin in Turkey in August. If the visit goes ahead, Erdogan hopes to discuss the details of the grain deal with his Russian counterpart. He noted that Kyiv declared its readiness to do everything that depends on Ukraine.
Erdogan also stated: “I do not expect that we will see a different position at a meeting with respected Putin.” He also added: “Our comrades continue to discuss this topic with their Russian colleagues.”
The grain deal agreement between Russia, Ukraine, Turkey and the UN was signed last July in Istanbul. The agreement provides for Russian assistance in the export of Ukrainian grain, food and fertilizers through the Black Sea ports, including Odessa. A memorandum was also signed between the Russian Federation and the UN obliging the latter to remove restrictions on the export of Russian agricultural products and fertilizers to world markets.
The grain deal has already been extended before and the last time its validity was set until July 17.
