Turkish nuclear power plant “Akkuyu” is preparing for the delivery of nuclear fuel, which will take place on April 27. After this procedure, the nuclear power plant will become an operating nuclear facility, and Turkey will become a country with nuclear power. Russian President Vladimir Putin will attend the event via videoconference, Turkish leader Tayyip Erdogan said.

According to RIA Novosti, the Akkuyu NPP is the first project in the world of nuclear energy, implemented according to the “build-own-operate” model. It will be equipped with advanced Russian VVER-1200 reactors, which will generate about 35 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity per year, covering up to 10% of Turkey’s needs.

The cost of the project is estimated at $20 billion. The construction of the first power unit began in April 2018, and subsequent units were launched in 2020, 2021 and 2022.
