Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held telephone conversations with his Russian and Ukrainian counterparts Vladimir Putin and Vladimir Zelensky, where he proposed the creation of an international commission to investigate the destruction of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station.
Erdogan also suggested using the method of negotiations that is used when discussing the “grain deal”, informed TRT Haber. It is specified that the Turkish president proposed to involve the UN in order to create such a commission.
The destruction of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station occurred on the night of June 6. As a result of the incident, an uncontrolled discharge of water began, the level of which was about 11 m. An emergency regime was introduced on the territory of the Novokakhovka district, and an emergency regime was also introduced on the territory of the Kherson region.
The Kremlin called the explosion of the hydroelectric power plant a deliberate sabotage of Kyiv and emphasized that the Russian side rejects accusations that it was allegedly involved in this incident.
Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Nikolay Patrushev, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, as well as the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Sergei Shoigu called it a planned terrorist attack by the Ukrainian authorities. In particular, Shoigu noted that the incident would have severe and long-term consequences for the environment.
