Erdogan expects Putin to visit Turkey in August

Ankara expects that Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit Turkey in August. This was stated by Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

“The exact date has not yet been determined. At the moment, this issue is being worked out by the heads of the Foreign Ministry and intelligence. I hope that as a result of their work, the visit will take place in August,” Erdogan said (quote according to TASS).

On August 2, the presidents held a telephone conversation, during which, in particular, Deal about Putin’s visit to Turkey. The date of the visit and the place of the meeting were not indicated. The two leaders also discussed the grain deal, from which Russia withdrew on July 17. The topic of transferring the commanders of Azov (recognized as terrorist in Russia and banned) to Ukraine was not raised during the telephone conversation, emphasized Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.

The agenda of the planned meeting will include the settlement of the situation in Ukraine and the extension of the grain deal, as well as the topics of bilateral relations and the exchange of views on international affairs, noted Kremlin representative.

In early July, Erdogan already said that Putin would visit Turkey in August. According to him, the leaders will be able to discuss the exchange of prisoners and the grain deal. Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation Yury Ushakov arguedthat Putin plans to visit Turkey, but there is no agreement on specific dates yet. At the end of July, the Russian leader declaredthat either he will go to Turkey, or Erdogan will come to Russia.
