Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) a structure far from justice, which makes politically motivated decisions, informs Anadolu Agency.
“When it comes to Turkey, politically motivated verdicts are issued, but when lawsuits are discussed in Germany or France, decisions are made of a completely different plan,” the Turkish leader said, speaking on Thursday in the Turkish Supreme Court.
In addition, the Turkish president noted that the country needs a change in the Constitution, since the current one was adopted back in 1982 and no longer meets the challenges of our time, despite a number of amendments, the agency said.
He recalled that Turkey’s ruling party, the Justice and Development Party, had prepared its own project to amend the Constitution back in 2021, but did not receive approval from other political forces. Erdogan assured that the issue would be raised again.
The last time Erdogan raised the issue of changing the Constitution was back in February 2021, but he did not raise the question of what specifically he would like to change in the country’s basic law.
