Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will work with his American counterpart Joe Biden if he is re-elected. About this he declared in an interview with CNN.
“Without a doubt. I will work with Mr. Biden,” Erdogan said and stressed that he would work with those who “take his place” if he loses in the presidential election.
The incumbent also added that he did not agree with Biden’s assessment, in which the American president called him an autocrat. He wondered how someone who participates in the second round of elections “instead of finishing in the first round, [может] be a dictator.
On May 14, presidential elections were held in Turkey. The official turnout reached a record 88.9%, but none of the three candidates passed the 50% mark needed to win in the first round.
President and leader of the ruling moderately Islamist Justice Party, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, won 49.51% against 44.88% for Republican Party nominee Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu. The nationalist candidate, Sinan Ogan, won 5.17% of the vote.
