It is noteworthy that the actionists Last Generation did not disrupt the opening ceremony of the film festival. According to activist Rafael Voellmi, protesting at the Berlinale will not save humanity, despite the importance of the gesture itself. According to Voellmi, for global changes, serious steps must be taken immediately.
At the end of December 2022, in Berlin, opposite the Brandenburg Gate, eco-activists sawed off the top of the Christmas tree, after which the actionists hung up a poster with the inscription: “That’s just the top.”
The organization that held the rally said that they were trying to draw attention to climate problems in Germany, the “top” of which is seen by the country’s authorities.
