The governor of the Belgorod region Vyacheslav Gladkov said that the authorities of the region had decided to open the entrance to the city of Shebekino and the village of Novaya Tavolzhanka due to the “improvement of the situation” with the shelling of these settlements. At the same time, “selective control” will be carried out at the entrance to Shebekino and Novaya Tavolzhanka.
“To restore traffic to Shebekino and Novaya Tavolzhanka from 10:00 today in the format in which it was carried out on previous days, that is, until yesterday, until 18:00. There will be a traffic police post, there will be selective control, but entry is free,” Mr. Gladkov said in his Telegram channel. According to him, the corresponding decision was made by the leadership of the region “taking into account the operational situation.”
Since the beginning of June, the city of Shebekino has been under regular shelling from Ukraine. Residents massively left the city: on June 12 in Belgorod temporary accommodation centers was more than 6 thousand people.
On June 20, Mr. Gladkov visited Shebekino together with Tatyana Moskalkova, Commissioner for Human Rights under the President of Russia. The city is undertaking extensive damage assessment work, with more than 700 private houses and 113 apartment buildings reportedly damaged. The authorities have already begun restoration work and hope to return people to their homes by the fall if possible. Earlier, the National Guard and private security companies were involved in maintaining order in the district after reports of looting.
