ENT doctors explained how to distinguish dangerous snoring from harmless

When it is necessary to treat snoring, and when it is not necessary, doctors from the capital told at a conference in the MK press center. The so-called uncomplicated snoring, according to them, does not pose a threat to a person, but in order to distinguish it from a complicated one, you need to undergo a special examination.
Only polysomnography, a multi-parameter test that allows you to diagnose insomnia, sleep apnea, restless legs syndrome and other sleep disorders, will help identify serious health problems.
“It happens that a person thinks that his snoring is connected with a deviated nasal septum, and does not even suspect that he stops breathing in his sleep,” says Sofia Melnik, head of the otorhinolaryngology department at the Open Clinic. – Meanwhile, respiratory arrest is a rather dangerous condition. At least during the day after such an inadequate sleep, a person will have a reduced concentration of attention. But it is also a life-threatening condition associated with a violation of cardiac activity.
Otorhinolaryngologist of the CDC on Presnya Elena Mironova, in turn, added that not only adults snore, but also children aged 3 to 7 years who have enlarged adenoids. It is good when the child “outgrows” this disease, and removal of the adenoids is not required. But if adenoiditis suddenly interferes with the full life of the child, even slowing down its development, radical methods are needed.
