English footballers plan political action in Qatar

Jordan Henderson: “We must go all the way in our actions no matter what”
England captain, Tottenham striker Harry Kane said on November 1 that he was joining the political action of his colleagues from some of the other teams participating in the World Cup in Qatar. During matches, these players will lead their teams onto the pitch wearing captain’s armbands that read “One Love”.
This may be a direct violation of several FIFA regulations and the upcoming World Cup at once, but the international federation has long resigned itself to the passive role of observers of the growing wave of scandals around the most important and most valuable of its competitions.
However, this promotion may not be the only one during the championship.
England midfielder and part-time Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson says “some” fans expect more from the players to protest Qatar’s gay ban.
Henderson’s calls for radical action came as no surprise. Previously, he had already been one of the most vocal supporters of Stonewall’s “Rainbow Armbands” campaign. And he knows very well that all the players, and especially the team captains, are guaranteed to be in the spotlight at the World Cup.
“When you do something as a team or as a player, I always understand very clearly that no matter what we do, it will never be enough. Therefore, you must be firmly convinced and well aware that if you think that what you are doing is right, you must go all the way in your actions no matter what, ”Henderson said on BBC Breakfast on November 1.
Last week Team Australia released a video in which they spoke out against the ban on homosexuality in Qatar.
An ongoing series of scandals forced the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, to issue a televised address on October 25 in which he announced a planned international smear campaign against his country.
