To detect prediabetes, endocrinologist Tsaturyan recommended taking an analysis for fructosamine
Sofya Tsaturyan, endocrinologist and leading specialist of the network of metropolitan clinics told in an interview with Moslenta about the importance of early diagnosis of diabetes. She recommends testing for fructosamine, which allows you to identify prediabetes at an early stage.
Tsaturyan emphasized that it is better to prevent the disease than to treat it later. With timely treatment of diabetes mellitus, remission is achieved in more than 60% of patients, and diabetic complications develop less frequently.
In the early stages of diabetes mellitus, transient hyperglycemia is observed. Glycosylated proteins such as hemoglobin and fructosamine can be used to detect such disorders. Glycosylated hemoglobin is used to assess the course of diabetes mellitus and shows the average concentration of glucose in the blood over 3 months. Fructosamine, on the other hand, is a more mobile indicator of glycemic dynamics and gives a picture of changes over the previous 1-3 weeks.
Tsaturyan notes that studies have shown that the determination of fasting serum fructosamine can be used as a marker for diagnosing prediabetes, as well as for identifying disorders and complications of the course of diabetes mellitus. If the content of fructosamine is more than 3 mmol / l in individuals with a fasting blood glucose level of not more than 6 mmol / l, impaired glucose tolerance may be established.
