Russians are thinking less and less about career development. Based on the results of the study, specialists from the recruiting company Get Experts came to these conclusions. The authors of the study surveyed about 1.5 thousand people and found that over the past five years, Russians’ work priorities have changed. They are now increasingly focusing on working conditions rather than opportunities for growth.

According to employers, recently employees most often quit due to professional burnout. This happened in almost half of the cases. Next comes a reluctance to do the same thing. And 36% of respondents said that their employees changed jobs or areas of activity due to lack of prospects.

The authors of the study also asked Russians what motivates them to stay in a company today. And it turned out that priorities have changed dramatically over the past five years. If previously the first place among non-material reasons was career opportunities, as well as interesting tasks, now the priority is comfortable working conditions.

60% of respondents reported that they would like to work from home. About half also value flexible hours. 41% want to maintain a balance between work and personal life. Employees also think about career growth and professional development, although only a third of all respondents.

In addition, according to the study, in conditions of personnel shortages, more than half of employers are afraid of losing employees and not finding new ones to replace them. 57% of respondents admitted that they had lost part of their staff over the past year.

And today this is a common situation, including because the younger generation is not interested in working in one place for a long time, says Kirill Didenok, founder of the Didenok Team communications agency:

“Turnover up to 50% is now considered the market norm. Although from the point of view of resource expenditure, this is by no means the norm, everything is very complicated. Over the past two to four years, the lives of most people have changed, everyone has revised their values. Career growth left the top 10.

The younger generation doesn’t really want to grow vertically. They are interested in developing horizontally, working for a year in one area, then in another, and at the same time taking different courses.

This is not about expertise and does not follow the logic that we need very experienced specialists. For some areas of activity, it is permissible for a person to work either in photography or marketing, and then a year later he decides to work as a waiter. For more classic professions this is not possible. An employer can and should improve working conditions and take care of environmental friendliness within the team. But now he is very dependent on employees.”

To retain employees, businesses are increasingly forced to resort to unconventional methods. For example, the Tinkoff company opened a new headquarters with a clinic, a service center and a beauty salon, said the company’s HR director Evgenia Heiman:

“The importance of well-being, benefits, and products from employers has increased. We noticed this trend quite a long time ago and have already made a number of changes. Tinkoff has a continuous well-being program for comprehensive development and support for employees. We do months of care, health, sports.

We have a comprehensive family support program; we invest in the psychological health of employees, their financial literacy, raising children, and so on. In November, we opened a new headquarters, a clinic, new gyms, beauty salons will soon be completed, and we will be able to launch all this and integrate it into the program.”

At the end of September, researchers from the Higher School of Economics came to the conclusion that it is useless to increase the labor productivity of Russians today with money. According to the survey, more than half of respondents are not ready for an increase in workload even with a change in salary. Some of them explained this by the fact that they were already working to the limit of their capabilities, the rest referred to other priorities in life.
