Emergency patches for iOS, iPadOS and macOS break the Safari browser - Kommersant

The American corporation Apple has released emergency patches for operating systems iOS, iPadOS and macOS, which violate operation of the Safari browser. Users who have already downloaded the update are advised to install the previous version of operating systems.

Because of the patches, the Safari browser issues warnings to users that it does not support sites such as Zoom, WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook (the last three belong to Meta, which is recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation). Apple has issued patches as part of its “quick response to threats” policy.

The zero-day vulnerability CVE-2023-37450 allows criminals to bypass device security and learn sensitive user data. Apple claims that a vulnerability in the WebKit browser engine is already being exploited by attackers who lure users to web pages and force them to play arbitrary code on devices. Only the latest versions of the operating systems iOS 16.4.1, iPadOS 16.4.1 and macOS 13.3.1 received updates. Apple has so far withdrawn the update and promised to release a new working version in the near future.
