At the same time, the embassy noted that the claim of the Russian side to the Supreme Court of Australia in connection with the decision of the authorities will be considered on June 26.
Previously, a number of media outlets, including sky news, reported a Russian diplomat who continues to live on this site in a rented unit. According to them, the police cannot escort him out of the area because he has diplomatic immunity.
The fact that the Australian government will cancel the lease of the site on which the construction of the Russian embassy was planned became known on June 15. Later, the Parliament adopted a corresponding law, which was introduced by the government. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese attributed the decision to security concerns.
The Russian embassy in Canberra said that Australia’s actions are another step by the Albanese cabinet towards the deliberate and consistent destruction of relations with Moscow. The diplomatic mission promised to analyze the “hostile actions” and respond appropriately. Russian Foreign Ministry after that expressed protest to the Australian ambassador, promising to use all necessary mechanisms to protect their interests, including possible retaliatory measures.
Previously, Australia had already tried to terminate the contract in the summer of 2022. At that time, the construction in progress of the building for three years from the date of issuance of the permit was called the reason. As a result, the court declared the decision illegal and canceled it.
