Embassies of Russia in 2023 will resume work in Equatorial Guinea and Burkina Faso. Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed the relevant orders, which are published on the portal of regulatory legal acts.
The documents say to accept the proposal of the Russian Foreign Ministry to resume the activities of embassies in the capitals of these countries in 2023 – Malabo And Ouagadougou.
The Russian diplomatic department will have to determine the number of employees of embassies in these countries and approve the staffing table. The resumption of the work of diplomatic missions will be financed at the expense of funds allocated for the maintenance of the foreign apparatus of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
On July 28, at the plenary session of the Russia-Africa summit, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced reopening of embassies in Equatorial Guinea and Burkina Faso. He also promised to support the opening of embassies, consulates and other representative offices of African countries in Russia. According to Putin, the Russian side would welcome “the reciprocal steps of our African friends.”
From the data on the website of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it follows that now representative functions in Burkina Faso are simultaneously performed by the Russian Embassy in Côte d’Ivoire, and in Equatorial Guinea by the foreign agency in Cameroon.
