The Russian flag was replaced by a Swedish one by eight-time world champion in ski orienteering Andrei Lamov. Vice-President of the Russian Orienteering Federation Viktor Elizarov announced the change of sports citizenship.
“Andrey Lamov will now play for Sweden,” he said. “The athlete has lived in this country for many years, his wife is Swedish.” He added that Lamov’s change of citizenship is a loss for our team, since the athlete was one of the leaders. Elizarov emphasized that the team will cope without him.
Lamov is now 37 years old. He has 8 gold and 4 silver medals from world championships. He is a two-time European champion.
