In Simferopol and the Simferopol region of Crimea, eight activists of the extremist organization Jehovah’s Witnesses banned in the Russian Federation were detained, Kommersant was told in the main department of the RF Investigative Committee for the Republic of Kazakhstan and Sevastopol.
According to law enforcement officers, two men aged 28 and 60 were the organizers of one of the largest cells in Crimea – the administrative center of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Russia. Another 46-year-old citizen was the chief Republican warden from this extremist organization. He was taken into custody.
The other members of the organization, according to the UK, were recruiting residents of Simferopol and the Simferopol region, as well as distributing propaganda materials.
“A criminal case has been initiated under Part 1 of Art. 222.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal acquisition, transfer, sale, storage, transportation, transfer or carrying of explosives or explosive devices). A circle of other persons involved in the activities of a banned religious organization is being established, ”the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Republic of Kazakhstan and Sevastopol specified.
Earlier in Dzhankoy, in the north of Crimea, was detained the elder of an organization banned in the Russian Federation.
