EEC discusses introduction of VAT on cross-border trade

The Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) may amend the Customs Code of the EAEU, which involves the introduction of a value-added tax (VAT) on cross-border trade. About it report “News”.
According to the newspaper, this issue is being considered by the commission. The proposal was made by Belarus, which was supported by Kazakhstan. The Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade noted that the draft amendments are already ready.
The fee is supposed to be introduced for foreign sellers of marketplaces. Wildberries believe that such an initiative will have a negative impact on trade between countries and on Russian consumers, as products will rise in price by 20%. At the same time, marketplaces will have a new obligation to withhold and transfer VAT to the budget on the operations of such sellers. The company calls on the Ministry of Economic Development to prevent such changes. Wildberries noted that entrepreneurs from the EAEU countries trading on the marketplace pay taxes to the budgets of their countries.
In Ozon andYandex Market” also believe that this will negatively affect cross-border trade and the availability of goods for Russian buyers. Part of the goods that have no domestic analogues will disappear from Russia, cheaper offers from, for example, China, stimulate the market to healthy competition. About 12% of all Ozon merchants are foreign merchants.
At the same time, experts interviewed by Izvestia believe that the changes will equalize the rights of foreign and Russian sellers.
