Education center for blind children opens in Moscow

On the basis of the capital’s Boarding School No. 1, the All-Russian Center for the Education of Children with Visual Problems, who demonstrate outstanding abilities for knowledge, was opened.
It is assumed that the center will accept gifted children from different regions of the country. This year, schoolchildren from Moscow, the Republic of Bashkortostan, the Primorsky Territory, Vladimir, Ivanovo, Novosibirsk and Rostov regions became students of the center. Education at the center begins in the seventh grade.
“This is a unique center that has created conditions for teaching gifted blind children. The guys showed high results in their regions, passed the competitive selection and are now enrolled in the seventh grade, – said the Minister of Education of Russia Sergey Kravtsov.
Every year, the center plans to accept eight students who, upon graduation, will be able to receive state-recognized certificates issued on the basis of the state final certification. Also, on the basis of the center, there will be advanced training courses for teachers involved in training and psychological and pedagogical support for students with visual impairments, as well as scientific testing of innovative technologies for accompanying blind children with outstanding academic abilities.
The partners of the center were specialists from the Center for Pedagogical Excellence, the Department of Education and Science of the City of Moscow, and the Institute of Correctional Pedagogy.
