The Ebeko volcano on the Great Kuril Ridge threw out a column of ash to a height of 2.5 km. Footage from the scene has surfaced on social media.
The recording shows a huge thick column of ash. It should be noted that Ebeko is one of the most active volcanoes of the Greater Kuril Ridge.
The Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation for the Sakhalin Region reported that the ashes did not reach the nearest settlement – the city of Severo-Kurilsk.
“The smell of hydrogen sulfide was not felt. There is no threat to the life of the population,” the report says.
