On the final day of the 24th round of the Russian Championship, the greatest interest was in the match between Dynamo, which was fighting for medals, and Ural, which took place in Yekaterinburg. Muscovites occupying third place lost with the score 1:2 and missed the opportunity to get closer to Krasnodar. Now they are nine points behind the leading Zenit.
Having suffered two defeats from Rostov and Spartak, Dynamo, of course, no longer had the right to misfire in the confrontation with Ural. After a very big victory for Baltika over Akhmat (7:1), the Ekaterinburg team dropped to 15th place, that is, into the relegation zone from the Premier League, while Sochi, which is still in last place, has reduced the gap from they are only up to two points. At Dynamo, everything was in order with the tournament position. Spartak, CSKA and Lokomotiv the day before were unable to realize their chances and move him from third position. In addition, the currently second Krasnodar lost to Zenit, which allowed the blue and white to get within two points of their superior competitor.
Marcel Lička’s team had only to avoid stepping on Spartak’s rake, otherwise the red-whites had already received a hit on the forehead from an outsider in the 24th round, giving away three points to Sochi. Nevertheless, Dynamo also encountered problems. They completely slept through the beginning of the game, and their goalkeeper Anton Shunin, who expectedly replaced Igor Leshchuk in goal, who messed up in the previous meeting with the same Spartak, had a hard time. Dynamo’s record holder for the number of matches in the Russian championship immediately made a colorful save, pulling the ball out of the bottom corner after a tight shot from Eric Bikfalvi. But when the hosts cunningly played the corner and Daniel Miskic hit powerfully from outside the penalty area, Shunin was already powerless.
“Ural” openly crushed the Muscovites, who came to life only in the middle of the first half.
Luis Chavez even disturbed Yekaterinburg goalkeeper Ilya Pomazun, although the hosts were still closer to doubling the difference. Artem Mamin, with a false swing, dealt with Mumi Ngamalyo in the penalty area, but shot so poorly that it blurred the entire impression of the cool dribble. At the same time, Dynamo played with virtually no scoring chances until Diego Laxalt made a miracle pass with the outside of his foot to Konstantin Tyukavin, who was hovering on the verge of offside. The blue and white’s top scorer in the current championship ran one-on-one with Pomazun and scored his tenth goal. True, shortly before the break, Shunin barely fought off the persistent Alexei Kashtanov, whom the Dynamo defenders left alone in front of the goal.
In the second half, the guests continued to tease fate, and Ural central defender Emerson almost hit the ball into the net after Shunin’s mistake on a set piece.
The Ekaterinburg team showed a more decisive attitude – it was felt that they were fighting for survival, including in a particular match.
Maybe that’s why fortune turned to them. The hosts were lucky when Chavez hit the post with a volley. And Daniil Fomin, in some incomprehensible way, fired over the crossbar from a lethal distance.
However, Kashtanov also managed not to score from the goalkeeper’s area after Timur Ayupov’s discount. But still, the impressive forward rammed the Muscovites’ defense already in injury time of the match. A cross in the direction of Alexey Ionov led to the fact that Dynamo player Alexander Kutitsky, in a fight, threw the ball directly to Kashtanov, who handled it on the move and put it in the corner from under Laxalt. In his emotions, the goal scorer even forgot that he had already received a yellow card, or simply showed recklessness by tearing off his T-shirt. As a result, the referee gave him a second yellow card and sent him off the field. Only soon the final whistle sounded.
“Ural” held on to a 2:1 victory, thanks to which it rose to 13th place with 23 points, displacing “Baltika” from it. Well, Dynamo stumbled for the third time in a row. It is still separated from Krasnodar by five points, but it is already nine points behind Zenit, unable to maintain the pace of the championship race.
