Dynamo Moscow defeated Zenit St. Petersburg in the third round match

At the end of the third round of the Russian championship, Dynamo won the first and very bright victory of the season. In the away match with Zenit, few people bet on the Muscovites, and they beat the champion with a score of 3:2. In addition, the white-and-blue bypassed St. Petersburg in the standings.
After the CSKA-Lokomotiv derby in the third round of the Russian championship, another big match took place with the participation of top clubs, in which Zenit hosted Dynamo. Both teams were unhappy with their start in the national championship. Muscovites did not win a single season at all under the leadership of the new head coach Marcel Lichka, which has already raised some doubts about the correctness of their bet on the Czech specialist. Even in the previous meeting with Krylya Sovetov, when Dynamo seemed to have found their game and confidently led 3:1, they managed to take only one point.
Zenit started not so badly, scoring four points, but somehow they were embarrassed by the very modest goal difference for the leader of the Premier League – 3:1.
At the same time, all the goals were scored by one football player – striker Mateo Cassierra. For Petersburgers, of course, it’s good that the Colombian finally broke through, otherwise he scored only twice in 26 matches of the last championship. However, in general, Zenit without Daler Kuzyaev, Wendel and especially Malcolm noticeably weakened the attack group, which negatively affected the number of not only goals, but also scoring chances. So, in a draw game with Rostov, the champions showed the worst statistics in recent years in terms of the number of shots on goal.
Zenit head coach Sergei Semak, after the Rostovites bounced back from the penalty spot, even decided to show his dissatisfaction with the referee and ran into a red card for “entering the field in a confrontational manner.” So he missed the match with Dynamo due to disqualification, and his deputy Anatoly Tymoshchuk managed the team in the technical area. Meanwhile, the Petersburgers included in the application for the championship Wendel, who, despite the desire to change the club, could not find a job. In particular, they never agreed with the Brazilian Flamengo on the amount of the transfer for the 25-year-old midfielder. And in the meeting with Dynamo, Wendel ended up on the bench.
Already in the debut, the rivals exchanged goals. The score was opened by the guests after the loss of the central defender of Zenit Robert Renan, who not only gave the ball to Mumi Ngamalyo, but also let the Cameroonian beat him.
And then followed by a chamber on Konstantin Tyukavin, and he had only to substitute his foot. The hosts bounced back in the tenth minute, and also thanks to the selection in the opponent’s half of the field. Cassierra burst into the penalty area, but did not shoot, but made a pass to a partner, which was unsuccessfully interrupted by Dynamo central defender Fabian Balbuena, who cut the ball into his own goal.
Immediately, Zenit could take the lead when Claudinho’s shot was parried with difficulty by Muscovites’ goalkeeper Anton Shunin. And in principle, the Dynamo defense came under quite powerful pressure, and this was already the most painful place for the blue and white at the start of the championship, because in two rounds they conceded six goals. But the guests defended themselves and then once again activated Tyukavin, who, after a shot from the depths from Balbuena, “razul” at the speed of the same Renan and plunged the ball from the post into the net.
Before the break, the teams exchanged even forced personnel losses. At Dynamo, Arsen Zakharyan limped, and at Zenit, Andrey Mostovoy was injured. Although both did not look the best, and Zakharyan had to share the blame for the own goal with Balbuena.
Before the second half, the hosts made as many as three substitutions, releasing the disgraced Vendel, Mario Fernandez and Nuraly Alip instead of the offending Renan. Having refreshed the squad, they again forced Dynamo to plow a lot in defense. And Wendel marked his return to the Premier League with a dangerous blow, which was blocked by Sergei Parshivlyuk, and in general, with him, Zenit somehow immediately acquired its former structure.
Marcel Lichka responded with a double substitution aimed primarily at strengthening and saturating the defense. The guests sank deep back, while the balls rarely reached Shunin. Unless Gustavo Mantua hit the target, otherwise the Petersburgers still lacked specifics in the final phase of the attack. During the match, they even switched to a two-forward game, although they usually do not use Cassierra along with Ivan Sergeyev.
Zenit attacked, but Dynamo could have scored. The hosts were just lucky that Daniil Fomin hit the crossbar while performing a set piece, because goalkeeper Mikhail Kerzhakov was powerless to help.
In the end, the Petersburgers were no longer shy in the choice of means and proceeded to a frank bulk with constant canopies in the penalty area. The guests continued to fight back stoically, but in the 90th minute, individual actions by Wendel led to the fact that Sergeev, in a duel with Balbuena, pushed the ball into the goal.
Moreover, Zenit wanted to snatch victory, but Wilmar Barrios, in the heat of the fight, committed a rough foul on Denis Makarov, and he was shown a red card on the recommendation of VAR.
And in the 96th minute, the Muscovites played a swift combination, Vyacheslav Grulev closed the serve of Diego Laxalt and scored the decisive goal. Having beaten Zenit 3:2, Dynamo also overtook him in the standings in terms of additional indicators.
