Dutch prosecutors request nine years in prison for footballer Promes

The Dutch prosecutor’s office demanded that Spartak football player Quincy Promes be sentenced to nine years in prison. He is accused of importing more than a ton of drugs into the country.

The athlete himself is in the UAE, where on January 22 he went with Spartak for training camp. Dutch law enforcement authorities requested a warrant from the UAE to extradite the athlete, but they were refused because the conviction had not entered into force.
According to investigators, under the leadership of Quincy Promes, in January 2020, two shipments of drugs weighing 650 and 712 kg were imported into the port of Antwerp.
32-year-old Quincy Promes has been playing for Spartak since 2021, having previously played for the Moscow club from 2014 to 2018. In total, he played 235 matches for Spartak, in which he scored 114 goals. In June 2023, an Amsterdam court sentenced Quincy Promes in absentia to one and a half years in prison for aggravated assault on his cousin. The incident occurred in July 2020.
