Dutch prosecutors demand two years in prison for Spartak footballer Promes in attempted murder case

Dutch prosecutors have asked for two years in prison for soccer player Quincy Promes. AD. The athlete is charged with attempted manslaughter.
According to prosecutors, in the summer of 2020, Promes stabbed his cousin with a knife. The football player was allegedly outraged that the young man stole a precious necklace from his own mother (athlete’s aunt). According to the lawyer of the victim, the incident provoked “post-traumatic stress syndrome” in him.
The court does not consider an attempted murder or even an attempted manslaughter proven, despite the arguments of the prosecutor’s office, since the blow fell on the knee, and threatening cries could mean nothing. Representatives of the victim, meanwhile, demanded that the player pay compensation in the amount of more than €1 million.
Quincy Promes himself is not present at the trials. The prosecutor’s office does not guarantee the athlete’s freedom if he returns to the Netherlands. Now the 31-year-old footballer plays for Spartak Moscow. Formerly Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation refused assist the player in obtaining Russian citizenship, despite petitions from representatives of the capital club.
