In eight districts of Chuvashia – Alatyrsky, Alikovsky, Batyrevsky, Vurnarsky, Ibresinsky, Komsomolsky, Shemurshinsky and Yalchiksky – an emergency situation (ES) regime was introduced due to atmospheric drought, Kommersant was told in the Ministry of Agriculture of Chuvashia.
As Vladimir Vasiliev, head of the crop production department of the Ministry of Agriculture of Chuvashia, explained to Kommersant, temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius were observed in these areas for more than 30 days, while precipitation was only about 3 mm. Not only does this dry weather hurt potato and vegetable production, he says, but it also poses a threat to forage as the drought dries up perennial grasses.
“Therefore, in some areas of Chuvashia, the state of emergency was introduced yesterday, August 29, and in other areas – today, August 30. The weather and atmospheric situation is difficult. Today, the probability of rain in Cheboksary was 51%, but at the moment, in fact, it has not rained in the capital of Chuvashia, ”said Vladimir Vasiliev.
Mr. Vasiliev noted that the emergency regime is introduced not before a specific date, but to develop measures and take measures to counter the drought. “Last year, in Chuvashia, at the end of August, an emergency regime was introduced not for atmospheric, but for soil drought, and it was lifted only a month later. The removal of the state of emergency depends on many factors,” Vladimir Vasilyev explained.
